TIGER WOODS
"I haven't played. Fred (Couples) wanted me on the
Presidents Cup and he wanted me to play. I was playing the
week prior (at the Australian Open), but I wanted to play prior
to that. I wanted to test what (coach) Sean (Foley) and I have
been working on. The Frys fit perfectly into my schedule. I
also said at the beginning of the year that I wanted to play an
event I've never played before. I told that to our
commissioner (Tim Finchem). That's what I'm doing. It'll be
fun." -- On getting some tournament action prior to the
Presidents Cup.
"He's been the world to me. He's been like a big brother. ...
And just to be here and being able to do this is an honor."
-Tiger Woods on Begay and why he returned to play in the
NB3 Foundation Challenge.
"I've never really looked at 18. ... My goals were more lofty
than that." -- When asked about reaching Jack Nicklaus'
record total of 18 majors.
"None of your business." -- Woods joked when asked how
many major victories he has targeted as a goal.
HUNTER MAHAN
"It's pretty log-jammed up there. We've got two weeks to
prove ourselves. It's the FedEx playoff time. We have to
keep it pretty simple here and remember that we're still
playing golf. Just have to go out there and do it right now." --
On being in the mix to make the Presidents Cup team this
year.
"I think it's a great venue for a PGA or LPGA tour event." -
On Atunyote Golf Club possibly returning as a host course
for a PGA or possibly a LPGA tournament."
CRISTIE KERR
"It's a great spectator course. ... This would be a great golf
course for us." -- On Atunyote Golf Club and whether she'd
like to see an LPGA Tournament played there."
"We definitely played off each other. When I was out of a
hole, Hunter would make a birdie, and when he was out of it, I’
d make one." --On why she teamed so well with Mahan.
RICKIE FOWLER
"There's a lot going on the next couple of weeks and just try
and remember to go out there and just play golf and at the
end of the day if the scores add up right we'll end up in the
right spot. ... I would love to earn my way on but I'll try not to
think about it too much." --On making the Presidents Cup
team.
"It's definitely an honor to be here with you Notah. Thanks for
letting us be a part of this. It's definitely close to me, being a
quarter Navajo and this directly impacts me and I'm excited to
be here and excited to play along side some world-class
players." -- Post-match thoughts at awards presentation.
ANNIKA SORENSTAM
“No, I do not have any plans (of a comeback). “I’m staying
busy with other things. I really don’t play much any more,
because of family reasons. So I treasure the times that I’m
out here.” -- On a possible return to the LPGA Tour.
NOTAH BEGAY III
“This is even tougher than the tournament because there’s
going to be a lot of trash-talking out there. So (Tiger's) going
to be over (the ball) and Natalie (Gulbis) and I, we’re not
above jiggling some change in our pockets. We’re going to
try to play some mind games. I'm going to try to get him
ready for his next tournament.” - On his pre-match thoughts
on competing against his friend Tiger Woods.
“I have a lot of respect for her. She’s been able to walk away
on her terms. She understands that there are other things in
life. And I’m getting close to that point, too. She decided. I’m
kinda getting pushed out because I’m playing bad.” --On
Annika Sorenstam.
SUZANN PETTERSEN
"This is my second year here. ... I think it's fantastic what
he's done. ... To help the kids, they are our future and to
help is fantastic." --On playing in the NB3 Challenge.
NATALIE GULBIS
"I heard about this event from quite a few players on the
PGA, who not only had a great time coming up here to play
at Turning Stone, but just to be part of it and what's going on
with the foundation. ... It's great to play with different tours
and different players and I'm excited to play with you Notah
and Tiger and Suzann and raise money for your charity." --
On her pre-event thoughts on playing in the NB3 Challenge.
