Fuss extends lead to 4 strokes at Women's-Am / Mid-Am

July 13
ROME - After two rounds at the New
York State Women's Amateur, a
teenager has stole the show.
Oak Hill Country Club's Danielle
Fuss shot 1-over 73 for the second
straight day to take a four-stroke
lead over Jillian Fraccola entering
Thursday's final round at Rome
Country Club.
Fuss, who will be a junior at Our
Lady of Mercy High School in
Rochester this fall, is coming off a
16-stroke victory at the Rochester
District Championship at Country
Club of Rochester.
She now is 18 holes away from
winning the Women's-Amateur in her
first attempt.
"I'm pretty happy with how I've
played," said Fuss, who birdied Nos.
8 and 10 and bogeyed Nos. 9, 13
and 16. "I hope to do the same thing
tomorrow."
Teresa Cleland (153 total) is in solo
third and leads the Mid-Amateur
Division. Jenna Hoecker, Mary
Sicard, Sarah Tranelli, Victoria
DeGroodt and Aimee Caligiore are
tied for fourth place, nine strokes
back of Fuss.
Lauren Cupp (Rome CC) shot 84
and is tied for 17th with a 162 total.
Newport's Linda Ptak also made the
cut with a two-day total of 169.
Oneida Community Golf Club's Diane
Waldron missed the cut with a 175
total. The top 40 advanced to
Thursday's final round.
In the Mid-Amateur, Sicard is in
second place and Christy Schultz is
in third place, four strokes back of
Cleland.
Fraccola (Cazenovia CC) followed
Tuesday's 74 with a round of 76 that
could have been much better. She
trailed Fuss by just a shot after 16
holes, but finished with a double
bogey on the 17th and a bogey on
18.
"It felt a lot worse than it really was
because of how it ended," said
Fraccola, who just graduated from
the University of Richmond.
Despite the late stumble, Fraccola
still likes her position.
"I think I need to keep playing my
game and be aggressive," Fraccola
said.
