Three headed for U.S. Amateur
after Monday's qualifying at
Seven Oaks Golf Course

HAMILTON - Seventy Four players
teed off Monday at Seven Oaks Golf
Course in a local U.S. Amateur
Qualifying.

Only three spots were open, with
another two becoming alternates for
the U.S. Amateur, held August 22-28
at Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin.

After 36 holes, Tyler Dunlap from
Trophy Club in Texas won medalist
honors with a 3-under 142 total.

James Parsons (Barrie, Ontario),
Alexis Gemme Piacente (Granby,
Quebec) and Schenectady's Robby
Bigley tied for second at even-par
144.

After a playoff for the final two spots,
Parsons and Gemme Piacente
advanced. Bigley is the first alternate
and Jean-Philip Cornellier, who
finished at 2-over 145, is the second
alternate.

Among the local competitors were
New Hartford's Derek Bard,
Syracuse's Kevin Roy and Rome's
Marc Kullman.

Roy finished tied for 12th at 3-over
147. Bard placed solo 18th with a
4-over 148 total. Kullman struggled -
especially on his opening 18 holes -
and finished tied for 57th (27-over
par).

Bard, who is coming off last week's
tie for 17th at the U.S.
Junior-Amateur in Bremerton,
Washington, shot 3-over 75 on his
opening 18, and finished out with a
1-over 73.

Dunlap is familiar with Seven Oaks
Golf Course. His grandparents, Fred
and Marilyn Dunlap reside in
Hamilton, and Fred is the former
Athletic Director at Colgate University.
