CLINTON - New Hartford sophomore, Derek Bard shot
76 to win the individual medalist, and teamed with Kyle
Critelli to win the team event during Tuesday's Tri Valley
League Tournament at Skenandoa Golf Club.
The victories were the third straight for Bard, who won
individual and team titles in 2010 at Hidden Valley Golf
Club and in 2009 at McConnellsville Golf Club.
"It gives me confidence medaling in this tournament,"
Bard said. "Over the last few years, there have been a
lot of local golfers who have stepped up and improved,
which makes every match against them very exciting.
Winning gives me more confidence heading into
sectionals."
Bard won the team title with Critelli in 2010 and Joe
Mauro in '09. With two seasons of high school eligibility
remaining, Bard and the Spartans could make it five
straight.
"It's nice to have New Hartford retain the title for the last
three years, and hopefully we can retain it for years to
come."
Critelli has had a great senior season, and with Bard,
has helped lead the Spartans to a 12-1 mark to go
along with Tuesday's victory.
"To be a part of a repeat in the TVL championship is
quite a feat for my senior year. New Hartford has had a
big year this year, winning TVL's and now in soul
possession of the lead in the TVL East conference,"
said Critelli, who admittedly wasn't in top form Tuesday,
but knew every shot mattered.
"Although my swing wasn't in tournament ready shape, I
grinded the 18 holes out and it ended up being good
enough for the win."
Camden's Seth Adams finished second after carding a
78. Whitesboro's Joel Jakubowicz shot 79 to place third.
New Hartford won first with a 158 total. Whitesboro (162)
was second, followed by Camden (167), VVS (171) and
Notre Dame (175).
