ROME - The Mohawk Valley Junior
Golf Tour concluded its 26th season
Tuesday with the Tour Championship
at Rome Country Club.
Among the big winners were Sydney
Bard, MaryAnn Bulawa, Ian Campbell
and Ryan Rybicki added Tour
Championship victories to their
regular-season titles.
Bulawa shot 44 to win the Girls 13-15
Division by four strokes over her sister,
Lilly Bulawa.
Ian Campbell shot 78, but still needed
to defeat Sam Tornatore on the first
playoff hole to take the Boys 13-15
Division.
In another playoff, Rybicki edged
Cameron Soja on the first playoff hole
after tying with 42s.
Bard shot 47 to win the Girls 12-Under
Division.
Mike Kalil and Rachel Halwig also won
titles Tuesday.
Halwig shot 89 to edge regular-season
champion, Nic Darois, by one stroke in
the Girls 16-18 Division.
Kalil shot an impressive even-par 72 to
edge Seth Adams by two strokes in the
Boys 16-18 Division.
Adams, who won the regular-season
title, didn't leave Rome Country Club
empty handed. Following the
tournament, the senior-to-be at
Camden High School, was named the
Mohawk Valley Junior Tour's Player of
the Year in an awards ceremony.
The award takes into consideration
performance throughout the entire
season, including high school and
other tournaments, as well as
sportsmanship and attitude.
"I can't say I was completely surprised,"
Adams said. " I definitely thought Ian
Campbell had a good chance,
because his scoring average was
better than mine, but making the state
(high school) team and finishing
second at the Onondaga Junior Invite,
really helped. I think that outside stuff
gave me the edge."
Adams has accomplished plenty in his
three seasons playing on the Junior
Tour. Now he can add the ultimate
prize to his resume.
"I'm definitely happy. I won the points
division for the third year in a row,"
said Adams, who won the 13-15 in
2009 and 2010.
"But Player of the Year was something
I could never capture, When I walked
up to shake hands with Wes I had a
pretty big smile on my face," Adams
said of receiving the Award from Wes
Cupp, one of the MVJGT directors.
