Rachel Halwig carded a 94 during
Saturday's first round of the New
York State Championship at SUNY
Delhi.
The sophomore, who joined the
Holland Patent girls golf team this
season after previously playing
for the Remsen boys team, shot
48 on her opening nine, but
recovered to post a respectable
round.
"The first nine was tough," said
Halwig, who chose to play against
the girls just for the opportunity to
compete in tournaments like
states.
I think I just needed to warm up. I
played better after the first couple
holes.
Halwig is enjoying her first
experience on the big stage of
girls high school golf.
"My goal today was to shoot
under 95," Halwig said. "I will try to
shoot the same or better
tomorrow (Sunday)."
"It's definitely a different
experience, but overall i"m really
enjoying myself."
Scores will be posted later on
