Pate, Wood among qualifiers
at Seven Oaks for
U.S. Senior Open
Advance to play at
Inverness July 28-31
                                   June 27

HAMILTON - Steve Pate, Willie Wood
and John Paesani shot 4-under 68s
during Monday's U.S. Senior Open
Qualifying at Seven Oaks Golf Club.

They claimed three of the five spots for
next month's U.S. Senior Open at
Inverness Golf Club in Ohio.

The other two spots were decided in a
five-player playoff between James
Rutledge, Trevor Dodds, Mike Hulbert,
Ronnie Black and James Mason.

Rutledge, Black and Dodds advanced
with pars on the par-4 10th hole, while
Hulbert and Mason made bogey.

On the par-3 11th hole, Rutledge and
Dodds made pars and Black missed a
6-foot par putt to fall into the
first-alternate spot. Hulbert outlasted
Mason for the second-alternate spot.

Wood, who just turned 50 in October,
is enjoying his first year on the
Champions Tour.

"I'm loving it," said Wood, who has one
PGA Tour win (1996 Deposit Guaranty
Golf Classic) and 23 top 10s. "I know
everyone out here and everyone is
pretty happy."

Wood also enjoyed playing Seven
Oaks.

"It's a wonderful golf course," Wood
said. "I have heard about it, I know
they had the NCAAs here in the 1970s.
... so I've heard a lot of great things
about it and I wasn't disappointed."
