to fourth-straight TVL title
Whitesboro takes 1st meeting with New Hartford

above) shot 2-over 38 to fuel the
Whitesboro Warriors to a
203-216 victory over rival New Hartford on a rainy Monday
The victory gives the Warriors (5-0 in the Tri Valley League
and 7-0 overall) an early lead over the Spartans (5-1, 5-1). It
also puts Whitesboro in primed position to win its
fourth-straight TVL title.

The Warriors have also won the Class A-2 Sectional title the
past three seasons.

Derek Bard and Kyle Critelli posted 42s for the
Spartans.

The teams meet again May 12 at Hidden Valley Golf Club in
Whitesboro.

Hole assignments set
for Warrior Classic
Eleven high school golf teams will compete Saturday
at the 6th Annual Warrior Classic at Hidden Valley
Golf Club in Whitesboro. Host Whitesboro will field
two teams to give the tournament 12 teams. The New
Hartford Spartans won the team portion of last year's
Classic. There also is an overall individual champion.
The event begins at 10 a.m.

Rams earn big road
victory at Old Forge
Smith, Wilder lead CSC North victory
     May 7
In a battle of unbeaten Center State Conference North rivals, the
Remsen Rams defeated the Old Forge Eskimos 161-167 Friday
afternoon at Thendara Golf Club in Old Forge.

Keith Smith fired an even-par 36 and Travis Wilder had a 3-over 39
to lead the Rams, who also received key contributions from Cody
Smith (42) and Rachel Halwig (44) to improve to 6-0.

Colin Criss led Old Forge (7-1) with a 38. Damon Kull (40), Ben
Hannah (41) and Corey Down (48) rounded out the scoring for the
Eskimos.

Remsen still hasn't lost a league match since its opener in 2006
against West Canada Valley.

Old Forge also played Poland and won 167-229. Dylan Oursbourn
shot 56 to lead Poland.

Whitesboro boys,
girls win TVL crowns
Warriors down New Hartford to win league titles
May 12
Bradee Holtslag, above, shot 33 to lead the Whitesboro
Warriors to a 182-187 victory over New Hartford in a Tri
Valley League match Wednesday at Hidden Valley Golf Club
in Whitesboro. The victory wrapped up the fourth straight
league title for the Warriors (13-0, 15-0). The Whitesboro girls
also won the TVL regular season with a 207-223 win against
New Hartford at Stonebridge Golf Club.

Old Forge to a 164-171 victory over
Remsen in a Center State Conference North battle at Alder
Creek Golf Course in Remsen. Both teams are 9-1 and tied for
the regular season title. It was the first loss for the Rams since
its opening match of the 2006 season.

Seven locals qualify at Class B tourney

Clinton senior Tim Waters (above) shot 82 during Monday's
Section III Class B Tournament at Kanon Valley Country Club
to qualify for next week's Section III Tournament at Seven Oaks
Golf Course in Hamilton. Waters will be joined by teammate
Garrett Drejza; Ilion's Dan North, Dan Reese and Patrick
Bergin; Mount Markham's Cody Homer; and Adirondack's
Mike Cole. Skaneateles junior Jeff Baldetti shot 75 to claim
his third straight Class B title.

The New Hartford Spartans swept honors at the boys TVL
tournament at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Whitesboro, Derek
Bard won individual medalist with a 1-over-par 72 and teamed
with Kyle Critelli (74) to win the team title.

New Hartford freshman Derek Bard (above) shot 4-over 76
Monday at Radisson Greens Golf Club in Baldwinsville to win
the Section III, Class A title by one stroke over Chittenango's
Ryan McGinnis. It was Bard's second straight class title - he
won the Class B-1 crown in 2009. Jamesville-Dewitt won the
team title, ending Whitesboro's run at a fourth straight sectional
title. The Warriors finished behind J-D and New Hartford.

Saturday to win the Section III Tournament at Seven
Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton by two shots over
defending champion Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles).
Bard had a two-day total of 153 and is the only local
player to qualify for the New York State Tournament
June 6 and 7 at Cornell University. Old Forge's
Damon Kull (167 total) finished one stroke out of
playing in a playoff for the final spot on the state team.

Mount Markham's Cody Homer shot even-par 72 for a
three-shot victory over Waterville's Steve Potter at the
Center State Conference Medalist Tournament
Wednesday at Thendara Golf Club. Dan North and
Dan Reese teamed up to give Ilion its second
consecutive team championship.

New Hartford's Derek Bard shot a 7-over-par 79 in
the heavy wind and rain Sunday at the New York
Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
The final round is today. Bard is tied for 13th and
trails leader Michael Miller (70) by nine strokes
entering Monday's final round.

New Hartford's Derek Bard (above getting a certificate
for finishing in the top 20) shot 77 Monday and
finished tied for 10th at the New York State
Tournament with a 156 two-day total. Penfield's
(Section V) Yarik Merkulov (142 total) won the title by
one shot over Brewster's (Section I) Michael Miller.
Section V won the team title.

Rome Free Academy's MaryAnn Bulawa, Marissa Feole and
Nicoletta Darois were named to the CNYCL's all-league team.
Bulawa and Feole made the first-team. Darois was named to
the second-team.

RFA's MaryAnn Bulawa shot 83 during Sunday's final
round of the New York State High School
Championships at SUNY Delhi. Bulawa, an
eight-grader, finished with a two-day total of 173 and
tied for 34th. Sayville's Julie MacDonell shot a pair of
73s over the weekend to win the championship by two
shots over Commack's Suzie Lee. Section III finished
third behind Section XI and Section V.
